World Cup Quarter Finals Preview

2010_Fifa_World_Cup_Fans_03
So… it’s been a while since we last posted an article about the World Cup and now that US is out we could probably stop pretending we actually care about soccer but still… we decided it’s worth to recap what happened until now and also to preview what will happen from now on.
First, let’s start with a couple of thoughts about the event. This was probably one of the most boring World Cups I’ve ever seen and even though that Vuvuzela bee-like sound was freakin’ annoying in the first games, after 2 weeks I realized that it was the World Cup’s biggest attraction. Because the games sucked. Big time. I think I’ve only seen 2 or 3 interesting games until now and all the rest were either perfect as sleeping pills or just great reasons to go out with our friends and get drunk.
In the group stage there were quite a lot of surprises and last World Cup’s finalists France and Italy were sent home really fast after some pretty lame games. My favorites Netherlands and Argentina went through easily with 3 victories and even though I knew US is going to be a surprise, I wasn’t expecting them to win their group in front of England.
Now, let’s move on to the 2nd round match-by-match:
- Uruguay had a bit of problems with South Korea and needed overtime to beat them but since their players were a lot better than those Koreans the victory was expected. 2-1 for Uruguay, nothing interesting here.
- USA was defeated by Ghana. Oh noes, now this was a big surprise for us too even though US isn’t no.1 at soccer as they are in other sports. After winning their group and getting in a pretty easy lane I was expecting them to smash every team and go into the semis. The attack was great but unfortunately they made a couple of mistakes in the defence and that ruined everything. Better luck next time. 1-2 for Ghana, that’s sad.
- England were demolished by a young team of Germany ready to rock this World Cup. From the Group stage I’ve seen England was pretty lame and this overrated team finally showed their limits against Germany. Those young Germans were highly motivated and gave the Brits a lesson on how to play football. 4-1 for Germany, total knock out.
- Argentina showed their class against the Mexican team and after a couple of occasions on both sides they managed to score for a couple of times and secured their quarter finals place. Messi was pretty great again but he didn’t had any luck to score, maybe he’ll break the ice in the next game. 3-1 for Argentina, easy win.
- Netherlands defeated easily Slovakia, a team who was at their first World Cup ever and did a great job. They eliminated holders Italy and at their very first participation they managed to qualify for the 2nd round. That’s pretty great but it’s also enough for their surprising team. Netherlands won 2-1 without even struggling.
- Brazil smashed Chile 3-0 and I’m not impressed at all by their performance. Brazil was always delightful to watch but at this World Cup they suck. Their game is as boring as a rats ass and I really hope they’re going to go home pretty soon because they just mock their impressive tradition of beautiful soccer. 3-0 Brazil, boooring.
- Paraguay versus Japan was another game that wasn’t worth watching. Besides some Japanese Cuties and that famous Paraguay fan with big boobs there wasn’t anything interesting in this game. I took a good nap during it and I’m glad I used my time like that. 0-0 at the end, Paraguay qualified after penalty kicks.
- Spain scored 1 against neighbours Portugal in a game that was less interesting than expected. I hoped this game was a true show but it wasn’t even close to that. The two teams were so scared of each other that I think at half time they had to change their diapers. Christiano Ronaldo was too alone to make any difference and the Spanish team manged to get one for the win.
After two days of rest the Quarter Finals will start with 2 games that will be as interesting as the NBA Finals and 2 as boring as a politician’s speech.
- Netherlands vs Brazil: The Dutch team was always a bit underrated in the previous World Cups but I really hope they’re going to impress everyone and go all the way this year. They have some of the world’s best players which are even better than the Brazilian footballers and they play as a team pretty well. If they will play their best football they’ll kick some Brazilian asses easily! Brazil, I hope you’ll go home this Friday and change that shitty coach who thinks defence is more important than offense.
- Uruguay vs Ghana – I probably won’t watch this game because it’s definitely not World Cup quarter finals worthy. Probably Uruguay will win because they have better players but instead of looking at this game I’d take a dog out for a walk in the park to pick up some young girls. That’s more like it.
- Argentina vs Germany – I feel this is going to be the best match of this World Cup, even better than the finals and any other game played until now. Argentina smashed every other opponent while Germany delighted everyone in the second round when they humiliated England. These two teams also met in the quarter finals of the last world cup when Germany won at penalty kicks. I think we’re going to see a lot of goals but Argentina is more likely to win it if the world’s best player starts scoring.
- Paraguay vs Spain – Do we really need to preview this one too? It’s definitely going to be an easy win for Spain without even struggling. Paraguay were pretty lucky with second hand opponents until now but their luck is about to end against Spain.
That’s about it. If you don’t have anything better to do we recommend you watch Netherlands vs Brazil and Germany vs Argentina because these games will definitely be interesting. If you want to take a nap you can watch the other two quarter finals as well.
