Asus has more than confirmed its support for the upcoming Intel Cedar Trail platform by revealed at Computex a few netbooks based on it. One of the machines prepared is the Eee PC 1025C which features a 10.1-inch (1024 x 600) display and will be powered by a 32nm Atom CPU (N2600 or N2800).

The incoming netbook also has DDR3 memory, a hard drive (250/320GB probably), a 0.3 megapixel webcam, a card reader, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, a HDMI output and a 3- or 6-cel battery (the latter enabling up to 14 hours of operation).

The Eee PC 1025C runs Windows 7 and will be available in multiple colors with matte (white, gray, pink and brown) or glossy (blue, white, black and red) finishes. Price wise, the netbook is said to target the $249 mark.

The Fujitsu Lifebook series has always been characterized by its strong connection with the latest technology in laptops. Biometric control, touchscreen and other items have made an important point for designers and discoverers of new trends.

How could the next model be improved? The designer Patrick Decker and Florian Langer imagined a portable modular. A framework could integrate three elements: a smartphone, a tablet and a physical keyboard.

The tablet screen and act as a hardware device, the smartphone tablet multitouch to govern the pointer and the keyboard to write. So the combination of three elements will lead to a laptop to use in case of need. At present, however, remains only a draft.

Measuring 9.8 by 6.6 by 0.5 inches, the 1.6-pound Motorola Xoom looks slightly different than its primary competitor, the Apple iPad. Where the iPad has a brushed metallic border and back panel, the Xoom's contour back is black matte plastic. There's no physical Home button, like on the iPad, and the Xoom has a front-facing 2-megapixel camera lens flanked by the Motorola and Verizon logos, which run along the top horizontal border of the front panel. On-screen Back, Home, and Active Apps buttons, and a small battery indicator light live below the 10.1-inch, 16:9 1,280-by-800-pixel touch screen. On the lower horizontal side panel, there are connections for a microUSB sync cable (which is included), HDMI output, and the proprietary power adapter connection. (The tablet doesn't charge via the sync cable like most devices.) Two Volume Control buttons are situated on the left vertical panel. Around back there are built-in stereo speakers, a rear-facing 5-megapixel camera lens, a dual LED camera flash, and the Power/Lock button—which seems like an odd placement choice. You'll also find additional Google, Motorola, and Verizon logos on the tablet's back panel.

While the 100B isn't as design-forward as its consumer-oriented cousin, the HP Omni 100, the 100B has a serviceable exterior. Like the similarly business-minded Acer Veriton Z290G-UD525W ($599 list, 3 stars), the 100B is a standard-looking all-in-one desktop with the components built into the screen. Two stubby support legs keep the front of the panel off the desk, and a hinged leg/kickstand in back lets you tilt the screen a bit (though there's no height adjustment). With a whole lot of effort, you can remove the back panel in order to get into the desktop for component replacement. It's capable of holding a larger hard drive and up to 8GB of memory (it ships with 2GB), though you'd have to remove the existing components to replace them with larger chips or hard drive. The tray-loading DVD burner and 250GB 7,200rpm SATA hard drives are installed in such a way that they are replaceable by IT technicians if there's ever a problem. The 100B isn't easy to get into; you could use a flathead screwdriver to open up the back panel in a pinch, but using a Torx T15 driver is more efficient.

Nuts About Nets offers the customized WRT400N for $279 with the Profiler24x software making up the rest of the cost. This is pricier than other dual-band routers currently on the market like the Cisco Linksys E4200 Maximum Performance Wireless-N Router ($179, 4 stars) but this isn't your typical router because of the diagnostic capabilities.

The EasyShare Sport comes in three colors—my test unit was what Kodak calls red, but it's almost orange. (Your other options are gray or blue.) It's fairly hefty for a pocket camera, the glossy plastic, chunky rectangle measures 2.6 by 3.6 by 1.2 inches (HWD), but does have a cute, sporty look. On the front of the camera are the lens, the flash and a slightly protruding grip with a rubber strip that makes the otherwise slippery camera a little easier to hold. On top are the Shutter, Power, Mode (for switching between still images and video) and flash toggle buttons. On the bottom is the compartment for the two standard AA batteries that power the camera, along with the SD card slot and the micro-USB port. That compartment is a bit difficult to access, but it keeps what's inside dry.

The body of the TS3 comes in four metallic hues (silver, red, orange, and blue) and isn't exactly minimalist. It actually looks tough: There are plenty of bumpers and exposed screws that help ensure that the camera can take a beating. The 7-ounce, 2.5-by-4.1-by-1-inch (HWD) body is waterproof up to up to 40 feet, freeze-proof to as low as 14°F, can withstand drops up to 6.6 feet (2 meters), and is dust-proof. The TS3 is as tough as compact cameras get.

Big laptops tend to fall victim to bulky, plastic constructions. The AS8950G-9839 is an exception to that, as its colossal lid is draped in aluminum. Though I wouldn't call this laptop thin, the aluminum has a slimming effect, masking some of the bulkiness that you see in other media center laptops like Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q850 and Asus G73SW-BST6 ($1,299.99 list, 3.5 stars)—its counterparts with plastic chasses. Unlike the Dell XPS 17 ($1,670 direct, 3.5 stars), the AS8950G-9839 doesn't use aluminum in its bottom half. The interior color of the AS8950G-9839 matches the lid—well, up to the palm rest area, which is clad in black, for contrast.

The build of the compact, 2.5-by 4.1-by-1.3-inch (HWD) F500EXR is quite elegant, combining a glossy, gun-metal chassis with a glossy black face and a rubbery grip. The Acer AS5253 uses a plain black top, which is not surprising given its budget price. Plain designs are common among aggressively-priced laptops, including the Gateway NV50A02u ($449.99 list, 4 stars) and Asus K52F-BIN6 ($479.99 list, 3.5 stars). As you move up the price ladder, laptops like the HP Pavilion dv6-6013cl ($650 direct, 4 stars) and Toshiba Satellite L655-S5161RDx ($699.99 list, 3.5 stars) have more sophisticated looks. On the bright side, the lid has a textured surface that's resistant to scratches and finger prints, like that of the NV50A02u. At 5 pounds flat, the AS5352 is more of a desk fixture than travel companion, although it's the lightest among the Toshiba L655-S5161RDx (5.3 lbs), Asus K52F-BIN6 (5.6 lbs), and Dell Inspiron M501R-1655MRB (5.6 lbs) ($650 list, 3.5 stars).

The A50 is a diminutive nettop, similar to last year's Polywell Giada ION-100 ($449 street, 3 stars). The system is a tiny 6 by 1 by 7.5 inches (HWD), which means that it's (much) smaller than your average hardcover novel. It's a smidge bigger when you clip on the included stand, but even with the clear stand attached the A50 can almost disappear on a desktop. Though a VESA mount isn't included, the system is so small that you could almost attach the A50 to the back of a 42-inch or larger HDTV with a few inches of double-stick tape. There's a little fan noise up close, but the A50 is virtually silent from more than 2 to 3 feet away.

The ET1331-40e uses a plain black mini tower case with a glossy front panel that contains two external drives bays and five card reader slots with support for nine different flash media formats. Here you'll also find 2 USB 2.0 ports and headphone and microphone jacks. A big green backlit power button is positioned in the center of the panel. The lone optical drive is a DVD multi drive (a Blu-ray drive would be too much to ask for at this price). The ET1331-40e is outfitted with a 500GB, 7,200 rpm hard drive that offers plenty of storage for digital photos, video clips, and music files.
