The trademark red swimsuit worn by Farrah Fawcett on the best-selling 1976 poster has been donated to Washington’s Smithsonian museum.
Farrah’s longtime partner Ryan O’Neal and nephew Greg Walls donated the sexy swimsuit to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.
O’Neal also donated a Fawcett swimsuit jigsaw puzzle, a 1977-era doll of the star and scripts from Charlie’s Angels and a Farrah Glamour Centre hairstyling toy, among other things.
“Farrah Fawcett has made an enduring impression on American popular culture. We are pleased to welcome this donation,” museum director Brent D. Glass said in a statement.
“It’s an honor to see Farrah’s famous red bathing suit donated to the Smithsonian Institution, celebrating her place in pop culture,” Ryan O’Neal added. “The swimsuit is exactly where it belongs, and I know Farrah is looking down on us today flashing that big smile that we all loved.”
The items will be shown in the Smithsonian’s pop culture history collection, joining other items such as Evel Knievel’s Harley-Davidson and Dorothy’s ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz.
